Bracknell author Joanna O’Neill combines fantasy and science in her debut novel, A World Invisible. Published in its second edition by Wooden Hill Press, this gripping story links quantum entanglement theory with a 150-year-old trail from London’s V&A Museum to a hidden world, and has been enthusiastically received by readers from 15 to 75.
Writer and artist Joanna O’Neill was sketching at the V&A when the idea for A World Invisible was born. “I saw it as a wonderful place to hide objects in full view. I wrote the first paragraph right there, in my sketchbook, and then had to work out the rest of the story.” She continues: “Many things appear magical before they are understood. For example, I am what some people call a horse whisperer, using equine psychology to retrain difficult horses, but a hundred years ago that was believed to be magic.”
A World Invisible has been the choice of local book groups who have invited the author to meet them. “It is a terrific opportunity for me to meet my readers,” Joanna confirms. “I shall be delighted to speak to any group that approaches me, either to discuss my book or for a reading and talk on how I came to write it.”
Joanna is a textile artist and horse trainer as well as a writer, and her articles have appeared in several specialist magazines. She gives talks on subjects from judging quilts to balancing her different careers, and enjoys rising to a challenge. Married to one engineer and mother to two more, she is delighted that current scientific thought opens, not closes, the door to fantasy.
A World Invisible is available at £7.99 (or cheaper) from Amazon and high street book shops.
